Among the protagonists we find Eugenio, consumed by the passion for the game, a vice that leads him to neglect his wife and risks reducing him to ruin. Then there is Leandro, a scammer in disguise, in love with the dancer Lisaura. The stories of the two are intertwined under the eyes of the good Ridolfo - who tries to reconcile everyone - and Don Marzio, an indiscreet and slanderous Neapolitan nobleman.
